From first glance, the American Hotel (built in 1901) along Traction Ave and Hewitt Street in Los Angeles’ “Arts District” (next door to Little Tokyo and Skid Row…fun times!) looks exactly like what you expect from a dingy, rundown and not very well reviewed “hotel.” People really sleep here? I guess if you love the sausages of Wurstkuche that much, this would be the place to stay.
The side wall of the American Hotel also boasts some cool street art, but that’s not what caught my eye. Do you see it??
The decorative tie rods in the brick walls are hearts!
I’ve seen circles and stars on these tie rods, but never hearts! And if you turn the corner, the whole wall is covered in them!
The halls of the hotel may reek of pee and weed, but you can’t deny that the place is held together with love. (No, seriously, the amount of tie rods being used throughout the walls makes it look like the building is about to fall apart.)
